Opening Band Makes The Show

Last Friday (April Fool's Day!) I went to see the Mountain Goats show at the fabled M-Shop. It was the first time I'd seen the Mountain Goats perform live and there's only one word that can do it justice... DAMN!!. John really howls on stage. If you've never been privileged enough to catch TMG live, there are some mp3's of live cuts avaiable for free download at themountaingoats.net (check out the cover of Neutral Milk Hotel's, Two Headed Boy), where they also have pages of guitar tabs, lyrics and the such.

The opening act was a Carolina band called (take a deep breath here) The Prayers And Tears of Arthur Digby Sellers. I haven't been able to come up with the perfect description of their sound yet, about the best I can do is "literary emo, with acoustic guitar". Regardless, by the end of their second song I was completely won over. I know they have some song downloads available on their site, presumably studio tracks but I haven't listened to any yet. Live, the singer's voice was a little flat sometimes, but out of the studio I think these guys have the potential to sound really good.
